Puerto Vallarta, Mexico Vacation

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico Vacation | www.girlmeetsgold.com

This post is a bit delayed but I figured it’s better late than never! If you follow along on Instagram, you might already know we took a trip to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico last month. And it was pretty wonderful. It’s somewhere I’ve been going the last 5 or so years ever since my parents bought a condo there. Fun fact, they actually honeymooned in Puerto Vallarta almost 40 years ago, so it’s always been a special place for them. Now, it’s a special place for all of us—my sister and her husband even got married there!

We feel incredibly grateful to have a wonderful home to stay there but, because of this, I unfortunately don’t have hotel recommendations. However, I’m always happy to try to help in any way I can, so feel free to reach out with any questions in that realm and I’ll do my very best.

Their building is located in Zona Romantica (the Romantic Zone), which is where we spent mostly all of our vacation. It’s filled with plenty of boutique hotels, art galleries, cafes, global restaurants, cute cobblestone streets, beaches and more.

The majority of this post is dedicated to what I wore but I’m also sharing a list of some of our favorite places to eat, plus things to do and see. I hope you enjoy!

Madewell Sandals available here, here and here | Walmart Pants - similar below | Kinilush Bag - more affordable options here and here

Our first night in Puerto Vallarta started off wonderfully. We actually had my parents there for our first two days, so we enjoyed dinner out with them at Daiquiri Dick’s. I’ve been there before and their food is very unique. They classify it as “Mediterranean-Mexican with subtle Asian influences” and that’s spot-on. Honestly, to me the food is just ok but I think it can be a good option if you’re looking for somewhere with more Americanized food choices. Definitely do go to enjoy a margarita with a beach view. Just be careful—they are STRONG!

My biggest outfit tip: I ended up living in my lightweight linen pants during the daytime and wish I’d brought more. This was the first trip I realized I’d rather choose easy-breezy, longer length bottoms over denim and other shorts. Don’t get me wrong, definitely bring a great pair of denim shorts but after a few days, most likely a slight sunburn and maybe a few bug bites, you’ll want comfy, lightweight coverage. Lightweight pants are the perfect comfy bottoms to toss on with a tank or tee or even with your swimsuit to head to the beach or pool. You can just as easily dress them up with a cute crop top and strappy heels for evening.

These Madewell sandals also had zero break-in period needed and truly went with everything. I brought other sandals but ended up wearing these the majority of our vacation. I can’t recommend them enough!

Full disclosure: most of my outfits shown here ended up being dinner looks because it was just too hot/sunny to take outfit photos during the day. Plus, Tariq (my Instagram boyfriend) was much more open to taking photos if they were at night after he had a drink. 😅

Vici Dolls Dress - old; similar breezy styles below | Gigi Pip Hat - similar here and here

Our first morning we woke up and went to breakfast at Cafe de Olla, which I highly recommend. When I’m in Mexico, I pretty much always order either huevos rancheros or chilaquiles and I had the huevos rancheros. Tip—order the hash browns, too! I don’t know what they do to them but they’re crisp yet creamy and it. is. heaven. Their Mexican Coffee is also delicious and tastes like cinnamon.

For dinner on our second night, we went to Joe Jack’s because it’s one of my favorite places for fish tacos. It’s not on the beach but it’s a cool atmosphere and their fish is delicious. I wore a navy midi dress from Vici Dolls which is unfortunately old and no longer on the website, so I linked some similar breezy styles for you.

And Other Stories Tee c/o | Nordstrom Linen Pants | Madewell Sandals | Ray-Ban Sunglasses

This all-white outfit may have been one of my favorite looks. It was just easy and effortless and I find myself feeling most comfortable in classic outfits over trendy styles, even on vacation. This is something you could just as easily wear all summer long for casual days or backyard bbq’s. Size down in the white linen pants, as they do run a bit big.

I wore this outfit for dinner out at El Mole de Jovita. I had the Tacos Dorados with mole sauce which was so yummy. When you arrive, they give you chips with three different types of mole and you choose which mole sauce you like best for your entree. This is another place that’s not directly on the beach but you’ll love the ambiance and family feel. Each night, this young man plays his guitar and sings on the street and he’s incredible. I feel like I’ve “known him” for a few years and only just learned he’s in school for music. You’ll love him.

Goodnight Macaroon Dress c/o

For an easy little day-to-night dress, I wore this polka dot number from Goodnight Macaroon. I love how it’s still classic in silhouette and print. I’m not huge on polka dots but this one is done right and almost gives me Julia Roberts “Pretty Woman” vibes with the color. I’m 5’6” and it does run a little short. I’d wear boy shorts or swim bottoms underneath for added comfort/security.

This is the night we went to Langostino’s on the beach. I’ve been there before and remember I wasn’t impressed with the margaritas but they were great this time and the food was really good. We had lobster and a cheese dip I can’t remember the name of but it was delicious.

Hat Attack Coverup | Madewell Scrunchie | Nordstrom Hat

About halfway through the trip, we realized (to get the most out of our vacation) we wanted it to feel like a true vacation: relaxing, rejuvenating and stress-free. We don’t get to spend nearly enough time at home together with absolutely nothing on the agenda. So, we decided hanging out at the pool all day was just fine.

I usually bring two swimwear styles with me on vacation: something strapless for sunbathing and something with a little shoulder coverage for when I get sunburned.

Goodnight Macaroon Off-Shouder Bikini c/o | Ella Moss White Ruffle Bikini Top and Bottom | Striped Shorts - similar here and here

The olive bikini is from Goodnight Macaroon and it’s a great price at just under $50 for both pieces. I was happy with the quality and fit, though I could have used a little more room on the bottom and a little less on top. I have the small and am usually an xs on top and small on the bottom. If it helps, I’m a 34A/32B and size 25 in jeans.

The white ruffle bikini I bought last summer and I’m still so in love with it. It’s truly such a sweet style and I absolutely love the flutter sleeves. They added just enough protection and sun coverage and it’s a really flattering silhouette on the arms. I bought this directly from Shopbop and it’s unfortunately sold out but I did find it on Amazon in select sizes. The top can be found here and the bottoms here.

Leith Midi Skirt | And Other Stories Tee c/o

We went to Pancho’s Takos for one of our last dinners out, which is hands-down my absolute MUST-GO every year. They kind of blew up from a Trip Advisor review, so they d fill up fast! They’re only open from 6pm-2am and usually I recommend going before they open to get in line. We went at 6:15pm and luckily snagged a seat right away, so I guess you never know!

This midi skirt was another style I loved for easy, breezy effortless coverage. I loved it with a jersey tee, again for coverage.

Outfit Photo: BB Dakota Tank | Levi’s Wedgie Shorts here and here

For my days in denim shorts, I wore these Levi’s wedgie shorts. I also love these Levi’s shorts, which are a great length. I made sure to bring along a couple easy and pretty white tanks to pair with them like this lace peplum from BB Dakota and this linen button-down from Everlane.

I also swore by this Supergoop sunscreen brush—I put it in my hair part!

Madewell Pajamas available here and here

Lastly, these are the pajamas I brought with me and they were the perfect comfy, easy style. They’re a great weight for the season or if you just run hot at night—which I do, so I’m still wearing them. The top runs a little big and the bottoms run a little small.

Here’s a little recap of some of our favorite restaurants for convenience…

Where We Ate

Breakfast:

Cafe de Olla - Try the huevos rancheros, hash browns and Mexican coffee

Coco’s Kitchen - We ate here at least 3 times. I love the chilaquiles and it’s a really cool indoor/outdoor vibe

Andales - Sit Outside. Can be a little busy but the food is good

Lunch:

Agrodolce - The white shrimp pizza here was SO good!

The Blue Shrimp - Food is okay but it’s an easy place on the beach to enjoy a late-afternoon cerveza

Dinner:

Daquiri Dick’s - Go for the margaritas

Joe Jack’s - I love the Fish Tacos

El Mole de Jovita - Tacos Dorados with Mole

Pancho’s Takos - Go early, try everything! My favorites are chorizo tacos, beef & bacon tacos, quesadilla

What to Do

Like I said, we quickly realized we wanted the majority of our trip to consist of having nothing on the agenda but we usually try to do at least one new excursion on each trip. Our favorite travel team is Vallarta Adventures by far. They’re friendly, fun and you can usually book online to take advantage of a deal—like 3 excursions for the price of 2. This trip, we did Rhythms of the Night, which was a night cruise to a remote island for a show and dinner. We did the VIP offer for the best seats in the house but I wouldn’t say it’s necessary. We really enjoyed the show and would love to go back for a day trip. This one looks amazing.

A few more favorite Vallarta Adventures we love:

Yelapa

Islas Marietas Eco Discovery

Outdoor Zip Line Adventure

Snorkeling at Los Arcos

More To Do in Puerto Vallarta and Surrounding Areas:

Visit Sayulita - Cutest beach town for shopping and more

Walk the Malecon (boardwalk)

Rent a Cabana on the beach. Most of the hotels on the beach offer towels and cabanas for rent even if you’re not staying there

I hope this post is helpful but please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions at all and, as always, thank you so much for reading!

Usually, I’m sharing an outfit with a white top and I’m sure you all know that’s my go-to outfit by now. But when I want an easy way to mix things up, I swap out my light wash jeans for black or white denim. I recently pulled out these white Everlane high rise skinny jeans I got last year and they’re a great effortless style for the season. I sized up in them last year and they’re an ever-so-slightly slightly relaxed fit on me. If you want them skinnier, I would definitely stick to your normal size, as they do bag out slightly. FYI, I’m 5’6” and have the ankle length and am wearing a size 26. They’re also a great price at $68!

With white denim on the bottom, the options on top are truly endless. Add white or cream for a flattering tone on tone look, have fun with pops of color and print or, if you’re like me—stick to your favorite neutrals. I added a grey long sleeve knit top for a cooler day but I love this outfit with a black or grey tee, as well. There’s something about adding a blue denim jacket on top that just completes the look, truly making you feel instantly put together. Whether you actually wear it over your shoulders or tie it around your waist, it’s the perfect addition. This one is from H&M and only $34.99. I love the slight crop and it has some stretch to it.

I slid on these white Sam Edelman slide loafers and they’re another style that adds a chic feel to any outfit. I kept things effortless with this Leatherology bag that’s actually a mini belt bag! You can wear it at your waist or slung over the shoulder as I did here. This is an amazing option for travel!

As always, thank you so much of reading and enjoy your week!

You know those outfits you throw on and feel instantly good, instantly like yourself? Every woman has one. Your go-to outfit formula. It can be anything from your favorite comfy dress, a great blazer or those jeans that fit just right. For me, it’s always some version of jeans and a white tee. My effortless outfit combination—always.

To start, these Levi’s 501 jeans are “mom jeans” that are actually flattering. 👏🏼High waisted, true denim feel, light wash. These are the lived-in, relaxed jeans you’ll love and there’s something about the silhouette that just makes any outfit feel instantly casual-chic. I think the distressing on these combined with the light wash lends to the perfectly casual feel. There’s something about this was that just screams effortless and I always reach for light over dark when I want that vibe. They truly pair so perfectly with everything from flats to sandals to sneakers to heels. I wear these for everything from weekend to dog walks to date night.

For an instant spring twist, this straw hat has been my go-to. 🙌🏼It’s a great price to test the straw hat trend and I’ve already completely over-worn it since I got it. It’s even been to Mexico and back! It’s a great vacation hat and works just as beautifully with your casual spring looks. I just love how it instantly makes an outfit feel put together and, to be honest, I’ve already had to try to stop myself from wearing it so much—it’s that good!

For something a bit polished, I swapped out a basic white tee for this sheer sleeve style by Velvet by Graham & Spencer. I love the airy feel and how it can so easily transition into something dressy but you could just as easily try this look with a white button-down or pretty white top for the season—or even your basic tee! That’s the beauty of style—wear what you feel good in and you’ll always feel great.

I’ve worn this outfit a million times over and tend to gravitate towards flats and slides for daily wear but there’s no denying the power of a great heel. For me, a “great heel” always means a low one and the 2” on these Everlane block heel sandals is perfection. These are incredibly comfortable and have such a wonderful “barely there” feel. Flattering on the foot with plenty of support and wearability—what’s not to love?

What’s your go-to outfit formula? As always, thank you so much for reading!

If you’ve followed along with my blog and Instagram for a while, you probably know I don’t wear heels very often. Though, let’s be real, of course I love the lift and length they give. What woman wouldn’t? But because heels are generally not functional for my lifestyle, my idea of the perfect heel is one that’s low, practical for both day to night, and—most importantly— comfortable!

You could call me a bit of a low-heeled sandal connoisseur and I was so happy to find this Roxanne Heel by LifeStride from Zappos that checks every single thing on my must-have list: low heel (i.e. under 2 inches 🙌🏼), strappy style (love the double strap) and comfort above all else. LifeStride shoes are on-trend, easy to wear, perfect for 24/7 dressing and affordable. ✔️✔️✔️✔️

They’re all about creating comfortable footwear for every aspect of life, whether that’s work, weekend or everything in between and these sandals truly nail it. They’re cushioned with memory foam for all-day comfort (major yes!) and they’re the effortless footwear staple to take you through the season. I had absolutely no break-in period required and I love how the strappy silhouette can do double duty from dressy to casual, whether paired with dresses and jumpsuits for a spring wedding or denim for date night. Did I mention this pair is only $59.94? That’s an incredible amount of wearability for the price.

I also love the light taupe tone, or "Putty Lotus”, of this pair because it’s a color most people might be missing in their collection. I know I was! These do also come in black but a light, neutral tone always helps create added length down the leg line, which is always my personal preference. Basically, the closer the color to your skin tone—the more streamlined the look! These look great with blue jeans and white denim as worn here for a spring-casual ensemble or throw them on with a little white dress or simple black t-shirt dress all summer long. How cute would this spring look be for a casual Easter brunch?

These would even be great for a casual office paired with cropped dress pants and a chic blazer in the summer months, so if you’re looking for stylish and comfy shoes for work, LifeStride’s Roxanne heel has you covered!

Also, I have to mention I absolutely love shopping at Zappos because they have incredible customer service, offer free expedited shipping and you can often find pieces you love for less. It’s the first place I look when I need last-minute items for a trip or special event because I know I’ll find something great that comes fast and doesn’t break the bank.

As always, thank you so much for reading!

My Trunk Club Vacation Favorites

My Trunk Club Vacation Favorites | www.girlmeetsgold.com

I shared a bit of my recent Trunk Club Trunk in my Instagram Stories over the weekend and I love how you guys are always so intrigued. You may remember earlier this year I vowed to shop less and buy with more intention and my Trunks have definitely helped with this. I know, I know—how is a box full of clothes helping you shop less, exactly? Well, to start, I have them set up to come every two months and concentrate on not shopping in between those months. I focus on asking my Stylist for classic, wardrobe staples and find that when I have to “check out” by providing feedback for each item, it helps me really pinpoint if I actually do need an item—or if I don’t. More about Trunk Club in THIS POST but if you’re interested in getting your own Trunk, you can use this link to be set up with my Stylist, Lauren. She’s amazing.

Anyway, back to this month’s Trunk and my vacation favorites! I asked Lauren to focus on vacation staples since we’re heading to Mexico next week and she sent a great mix of classic, effortless pieces and a few items that pushed me with just the right amount “trend.” I requested easy-breezy items, summer whites, sandals, etc and Lauren included just that. Without further ado, here are my Trunk Club Vacation Favorites…

My Trunk Club Vacation Favorites | www.girlmeetsgold.com

Always a fan of easy-breezy-effortless, this BP. linen blend midi dress is the perfect lbd for the season. It’s lightweight and airy and I love the button-front feature for a little something special. If in between sizes, I would say go down a size if you want it more fitted, or go with your usual size if you want it to be a little more relaxed. I’m usually a US 0/2 and have the xs and almost could have even done the xxs if I wanted it to be slightly fitted. Personally, I like how it’s relaxed just enough. For sizing/length reference, I’m 5’6”.

My Trunk Club Vacation Favorites | www.girlmeetsgold.com

I should also say now—I am wearing my entire trunk with this straw hat because I immediately pulled it off, put it on and basically never took it off. It’s good and under $50. More accurately, it’s $44 and also comes in the prettiest lilac tone.

I’m also wearing these Soludos sandals in the majority of these outfits. I actually bought these last year and laughed when I saw them in my Trunk because Lauren totally knows my style! Personally, I think they’re adorable but I did return them because they’re not the most comfortable. My absolute favorite, no-break-in-required sandals is this pair from Bella Vita and it’s hard to top them. Available in additional colors here!

My Trunk Club Vacation Favorites | www.girlmeetsgold.com

Next up was this pair of white linen pants and these were another easy yes. I just love how they look and feel effortless and breezy and the styling options are endless. Wear them by the pool with a one-piece or bikini, dress them up with a crop top and wedges for vacation cocktails or throw them on with a white tee and slide sandals paired with a denim jacket for something a little more everyday-appropriate.

These come in a ton of colors (navy, oatmeal, black and striped) but I love the bright white. The coverage is great and they’re just ever-so-slightly see through—nude underwear and you’re good!

I have these in an xs.

My Trunk Club Vacation Favorites | www.girlmeetsgold.com
My Trunk Club Vacation Favorites | www.girlmeetsgold.com
My Trunk Club Vacation Favorites | www.girlmeetsgold.com

Always a fan of midi skirts, this Leith front-button midi skirt in ‘peach clay’ got me just enough outside my neutral comfort zone. This does have a matching top but I love how a white tee keeps the look a bit more simple and effortless. Midi skirts instantly make me feel more feminine and I could live in them during the warmer months. Perfect for date night and summer days. How sweet is the button detail and flutter hem? I have this in an xs.

My Trunk Club Vacation Favorites | www.girlmeetsgold.com

Full disclosure, I didn’t end up keeping this Billabong X Sincerely Jules Twist Flirt Jumpsuit because it was a bit too small—sadly, it wouldn’t zip!—but so many of you loved it, I had to share. This print screams tropical vacation and would be such a fun piece for a beach trip. I would take a top version of this in a heartbeat and pair it with white or blue cutoff shorts—or my white linen pants! If you’re planning to snag this one—definitely size up! For reference, I’m wearing the xs and would have needed a small.

Lastly, these were pieces I almost kept. These navy paperbag waist knit shorts were so, so comfortable and I love the style. They’re also a steal at just $39. I personally was just trying to minimize what I kept and couldn’t justify them because I already have something similar in my closet. I love them with this striped Madewell tee though for a nautical-inspired vacation look.

The J.Crew eyelet midi wrap dress was another gorgeous and feminine silhouette but I have another similar white midi dress in my collection, so I passed. I felt a little bit “Southern Belle” in this dress and can see it looking so sweet for a trip to Charleston or somewhere similar. It could also be great for a spring or summer bridal shower.
