A Black and White Summer Outfit

This summer, I’m trying to say “no” to too many trends and keep my closet as classic as can be. So, easy and effortless outfits have become my favorite summer go-to. I’m not saying I won’t try anything trendy and fun for the season (I love a good printed midi dress or skirt as much as the next person) but there’s something that just makes you feel good when you know your seasonal items are going to last through the season and beyond. And when you can wear them in so many ways. 🙌🏼

A Day Trip to Napa

Whenever the weather starts to warm up around here one of my favorite things to do is head to Napa Valley. It’s a pretty quick trip for us living in the Bay Area (about a 45 minute drive), so it’s easy to do a day trip for a little wine tasting, eating, relaxing, shopping, exploring—really anything that suits you. It’s just a beautiful place to spend your time and you can’t go wrong with any avenue you choose. We went for an early birthday celebration and I typically get a lot of requests to share our itinerary, so I wanted to dedicate a post to our quick day trip!

You can also see what we did for my 30th birthday weekend in Napa last year and my sister’s bachelorette party a couple years ago.

Also—skip to the end of this post to see a full list of Napa recommendations.

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico Vacation

This post is a bit delayed but I figured it’s better late than never! If you follow along on Instagram, you might already know we took a trip to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico last month. And it was pretty wonderful. It’s somewhere I’ve been going the last 5 or so years ever since my parents bought a condo there. Fun fact, they actually honeymooned in Puerto Vallarta almost 40 years ago, so it’s always been a special place for them. Now, it’s a special place for all of us—my sister and her husband even got married there!

We feel incredibly grateful to have a wonderful home to stay there but, because of this, I unfortunately don’t have hotel recommendations. However, I’m always happy to try to help in any way I can, so feel free to reach out with any questions in that realm and I’ll do my very best.

Their building is located in Zona Romantica (the Romantic Zone), which is where we spent mostly all of our vacation. It’s filled with plenty of boutique hotels, art galleries, cafes, global restaurants, cute cobblestone streets, beaches and more.

The majority of this post is dedicated to what I wore but I’m also sharing a list of some of our favorite places to eat, plus things to do and see. I hope you enjoy!

White Jeans with Grey Tee and Denim Jacket

Usually, I’m sharing an outfit with a white top and I’m sure you all know that’s my go-to outfit by now. But when I want an easy way to mix things up, I swap out my light wash jeans for black or white denim. I recently pulled out these white Everlane high rise skinny jeans I got last year and they’re a great effortless style for the season. I sized up in them last year and they’re an ever-so-slightly slightly relaxed fit on me. If you want them skinnier, I would definitely stick to your normal size, as they do bag out slightly. FYI, I’m 5’6” and have the ankle length and am wearing a size 26. They’re also a great price at $68!

Go-To Outfit Formula for Spring and Summer

You know those outfits you throw on and feel instantly good, instantly like yourself? Every woman has one. Your go-to outfit formula. It can be anything from your favorite comfy dress, a great blazer or those jeans that fit just right. For me, it’s always some version of jeans and a white tee. My effortless outfit combination—always.

To start, these Levi’s 501 jeans are “mom jeans” that are actually flattering. 👏🏼High waisted, true denim feel, light wash. These are the lived-in, relaxed jeans you’ll love and there’s something about the silhouette that just makes any outfit feel instantly casual-chic. I think the distressing on these combined with the light wash lends to the perfectly casual feel. There’s something about this was that just screams effortless and I always reach for light over dark when I want that vibe. They truly pair so perfectly with everything from flats to sandals to sneakers to heels. I wear these for everything from weekend to dog walks to date night.

Comfy LifeStride Sandals for Spring

If you’ve followed along with my blog and Instagram for a while, you probably know I don’t wear heels very often. Though, let’s be real, of course I love the lift and length they give. What woman wouldn’t? But because heels are generally not functional for my lifestyle, my idea of the perfect heel is one that’s low, practical for both day to night, and—most importantly— comfortable!

You could call me a bit of a low-heeled sandal connoisseur and I was so happy to find this Roxanne Heel by LifeStride from Zappos that checks every single thing on my must-have list: low heel (i.e. under 2 inches 🙌🏼), strappy style (love the double strap) and comfort above all else. LifeStride shoes are on-trend, easy to wear, perfect for 24/7 dressing and affordable. ✔️✔️✔️✔️

My Trunk Club Vacation Favorites

I shared a bit of my recent Trunk Club Trunk in my Instagram Stories over the weekend and I love how you guys are always so intrigued. You may remember earlier this year I vowed to shop less and buy with more intention and my Trunks have definitely helped with this. I know, I know—how is a box full of clothes helping you shop less, exactly? Well, to start, I have them set up to come every two months and concentrate on not shopping in between those months. I focus on asking my Stylist for classic, wardrobe staples and find that when I have to “check out” by providing feedback for each item, it helps me really pinpoint if I actually do need an item—or if I don’t. More about Trunk Club in THIS POST but if you’re interested in getting your own Trunk, you can use this link to be set up with my Stylist, Lauren. She’s amazing.

Anyway, back to this month’s Trunk and my vacation favorites! I asked Lauren to focus on vacation staples since we’re heading to Mexico next week and she sent a great mix of classic, effortless pieces and a few items that pushed me with just the right amount “trend.” I requested easy-breezy items, summer whites, sandals, etc and Lauren included just that. Without further ado, here are my Trunk Club Vacation Favorites…

Basics on a Budget | Spring Edit

No matter the season, there’s nothing I love more than throwing on easy staples. While I’m a huge proponent of investing in quality over quantity, sometimes your wardrobe just needs staples that don’t break the bank. Staples you can live in, get dirty in, play with your kids (or dogs) in, workout in—without worrying about wearing them out and spending more to replace them each season.

I know it’s unrealistic to think everyone is able to justify spending $60+ on one shirt and while I know a lot of you appreciate my everyday, “basic” style, some of you do express you’d like to see more affordable options. Today, I’m partnering with Walmart to celebrate fashion for all—at prices everyone can feel good about. Their fresh new spring shop features bold stripes, modern romance and cool cottons but you guys know I’m all about those classic wardrobe staples: my effortless neutrals.
