Comfy LifeStride Sandals for Spring

Comfy LifeStride Sandals for Spring

If you’ve followed along with my blog and Instagram for a while, you probably know I don’t wear heels very often. Though, let’s be real, of course I love the lift and length they give. What woman wouldn’t? But because heels are generally not functional for my lifestyle, my idea of the perfect heel is one that’s low, practical for both day to night, and—most importantly— comfortable!

You could call me a bit of a low-heeled sandal connoisseur and I was so happy to find this Roxanne Heel by LifeStride from Zappos that checks every single thing on my must-have list: low heel (i.e. under 2 inches 🙌🏼), strappy style (love the double strap) and comfort above all else. LifeStride shoes are on-trend, easy to wear, perfect for 24/7 dressing and affordable. ✔️✔️✔️✔️

Spring Capsule Wardrobe Staples

From left to right in rows: Striped Top | White Button Down | Nude Thermal | Navy Cardigan | Straight Leg Jeans | Striped Wrap Top | Loafers | White Top | Block Heel Sandals | Nude Bag

Quality over quantity has been my motto lately and with spring (kind of) officially in the air, I’m taking this approach with me into the new season by focusing on building a spring capsule wardrobe. A capsule wardrobe is essentially made up of style staples you can easily pull together and mix and match with ease.

On a personal level, I know I feel anxious seeing my closet full of seasonal trends that may not have stood the test of time or didn’t last across multiple seasons. So my goal for a spring capsule is this: investing in basics I feel confident in. Less trends, more easy-breezy style staples. Creating a closet you can pull from to easily create looks you feel confident in. Isn’t that what shopping should always be about? Finding pieces that “spark joy”?

For me, I know I always feel my best in casual-chic basics with a flattering fit and feel. I also adore finding pieces with some sort of twist and tend to gravitate towards feminine styles more heavily in the warmer months. You’ll find me in wrap silhouettes, touches of floral here, lace and ruffles to name a few.

I want to start sharing more of what I have my eye on and a few things I’m currently loving for spring include: light wash denim especially in ankle lengths which looks really great with spring slides, fitted knits in neutrals and stripes, breezy white tops and neutral shoes in styles like loafers and slides. I really love having these classic basics you can literally throw on to feel put together in an instant. The beauty of a capsule wardrobe is that everything works together!

How to Wear a Belt Bag in a Chic Way

How to Wear a Belt Bag | www.girlmeetsgold.com

Ask a lot of people their opinion on a fanny pack and their mind might immediately go to something neon and 80’s style or velcro and meant for travel only. But the truth is, today, fanny packs have really evolved into a chic and stylish accessory, more lovingly referred to as: the belt bag.

A belt bag is not only a unique statement piece that can turn heads but it’s also a practical style, allowing you to be hands-free. Great for travel and would be a wonderful accessory option for mom life. Think walks, trips to the zoo, bike rides and really just daily life. Keep in mind, you can still wear a belt bag slung over your head and shoulder.

This & Other Stories O-Ring belt bag is my first foray into the style but it’s something I chose with a lot of intention. I chose black because it’s timeless and can cover both day and night. I chose snakeskin embossed leather because it gives just enough edge to make an intentional statement. And the O-Ring because it adds the finishing touch. Basically, this belt bag has the perfect amount of detail so it doesn’t fall flat. And it really adds a chic flair in an instant.

A belt bag can really help pull a look together and can truly be the perfect finishing touch to elevate a basic outfit. Grab your everyday go-to combination (mine is always jeans and a tee) and try a full or half tuck. I have personally been loving and living in these H&M jersey tops (only $14.99) and they have a comfy, flattering fit that’s not at all messy. They tuck really well but also sort of hold you in. The black on black in this look gives a monochromatic touch that works well for both day and night but you could just as easily top with a brown suede jacket like this one or add an olive cargo jacket (like the one from this post) and sneakers to keep things extra casual.

As we head into spring and summer, belt bags can work incredibly well belted around t-shirt and flirty dresses to add a bit of shape. I personally can’t wait to wear mine with a little white dress but the options are truly endless.

5 Classic Buys from the Shopbop Sale on Sale | www.girlmeetsgold.com

Happy 2019! Yesterday, you may have seen my post on how I’m shopping less and a big part of that post talked about how I’m focusing on building a closet full of staples. Items that are classic and timeless and will hopefully stay in my closet for years to come. I have said this over and over but one of my favorite times to shop for these pieces is during the biggest sales of the year, i.e. anniversary sales, Black Friday, etc.

shopbop sale 2019

The end of 2018 saw a multitude of incredible sales and Shopbop is keeping that momentum going. For 3 days, they are having a sale on their sale merchandise where you can snag an additional 25% off select sale items with the code HELLO2019. If you missed something on your Christmas list or want to add something fresh and timeless to your collection for 2019, this is a great opportunity.

Below are my top 5 classic buys of this amazing Shopbop sale. Items that are timeless, can pair perfectly with each other or with things already in your closet and that leave you feeling good about the investment in your wardrobe.

Happy 2019 and happy shopping!

No. 1 / The Plaid Blazer:

I’m newly into blazers and am already fully on board with the value of this timeless wardrobe staple. I love how they can dress up a basic outfit in an instant and a plaid style elevates your everyday jeans and tee look. This is one of those layers that just makes you feel instantly chic.

No 2. / The Ankle Jean:

Ankle jeans aren’t just a spring and summer staple. They’re the perfect style to pair with ankle boots this season to let just the right hint of skin show. I love the added interested a frayed hem gives these classic skinny jeans.

No. 3 / The Striped Tee:

Perhaps one of the most important pieces in a well-curated closet is the striped tee. I love the twist on this everyday style for the colder seasons thanks to the long sleeves and mock neck, but you can really wear this style year-round. I also adore the Splendid brand. All of their pieces are high quality in terms of both fabric and fit.

No 4. / The Belt Bag:

A belt bag has actually been on my list for a while and I really love how this one is convertible—you can also use it as a clutch! This is one of those classic, cool-girl pieces to take your look somewhere new—and hands-free. 🙌🏼

No 5 / The Block Heel Ankle Boot:

I’ve actually had these boots in my cart for a while—since before they went on sale. Their current price point is such a steal and the oat color is timeless and versatile. I love the very subtle scaled texture for just the right amount of interest with a unique vibe. I can see these easily going from day to dressy and even paired with dresses in the spring time.

You can see more from the sale HERE and, as always, thank you for reading!

White Peplum Button-Down and Denim

classic style white top and jeans

There's nothing I love more than a crisp white top and this one from Madewell is the perfect blend of classic, effortless and feminine. It has that breezy feel to update your denim for the season and the ruffle details give off a flirty vibe that's not overly girly. Just pure and simply chic style.

A peplum silhouette is a really flattering way to create a waist and while this top is slightly breezy and oversized, it has enough structure to maintain your shape. I loved pairing it with my trusted distressed Levi's skinny jeans in a light wash for a casual twist but you could just as easily pair with dark wash denim or black pants for work. Add a black moto jacket and you have an edgy vibe for date night. Sizing note: I did size UP in the jeans!

I added Madewell slide sandals in the perfect goes-with-everything tone but a pair of loafers in any color would work great or you can dress it up even more with classic pumps. If you're like me, a neutral crossbody will be the obvious choice. Try a circle style for an on-trend touch this season. I love this one by Rebecca Minkoff and it's easy for both day and night.

As always, thank you for reading!

Whenever I’m in an outfit funk, I remember I buy basics for a reason. It’s so nice having pieces you can rely on that just work. With everything. A striped top is just one of those things and it forever will be. I added this Madewell striped turtleneck into my wardrobe this season and I don’t see it ever leaving. It’s such a comfy piece that you can wear now layered with your go-to moto, anorak and cardigan or pair with cropped denim and cutoffs into spring and summer. Hello, perfect top!

I added it to my favorite Free People busted knee skinny jeans in black and slipped into these Everlane loafers in camel for a bit of a Parisian/Audrey Hepburn vibe. (Sizing tip: size UP in these, they run small!)

This is definitely one of those looks that just feels put together in an instant. You could easily swap out the ripped jeans for sleek black pants and pumps for the office.

My camel faux suede moto jacket is old but I’m adding super similar dupes at a great price point below.

Trench Coat and Velvet Boots

I shared these velvet booties in a poll on my Instagram Stories when they first arrived and about 25% of you said "nah, girl" but to the other 75% who gave me the thumbs up—thank you! I bought these on a whim during the holidays and totally forgot about them until they got here. While they might seem like a statement piece thanks to the velvet and sequins, I found they're really a lot more subtle than you might initially think.

I wanted them to take on a sophisticated appeal so I paired them with classic staples like a sleek Topshop trench coat and my new favorite knit Topshop turtleneck (definitely size up in this one!). I don't tend to go for fitted silhouettes on top but I really love the chic and effortless look it gives paired with high waisted denim. These booties add the perfect bit of interest to an otherwise basic ensemble and I just love the luxe touch for everyday wear. I also can't wait to pair these with sweater dresses and even bring them into spring with fresh whites.

For reference, I usually wear an 8 or 8.5 and sized UP to the 8.5 and these booties fit perfectly.

Thanks for reading and enjoy your week!

There is kind of nothing more classic—and effortless—than a white button down. A must-have in every woman's wardrobe, this little number takes you from day to night, work to weekend and just about everything in between. I have countless button-downs, but I love the popover style of this one by Lou & Grey. It's super soft and lightweight and has that "throw-on-with-jeans-and-look-instantly-effortless" vibe going on that I'm always all about. I love how it looks like your boyfriend's shirt, but also still manages to look feminine at the same time. Kind of a win-win-major-win all the way around.

I've also been wearing these Joe's jeans all. the. time. on Instagram, but I realized I don't think I've shared them yet on my blog. They're skinny jeans, but somehow have a "boyfriend" vibe. I've never found a pair of bf jeans that I like on me, so I'm kind of really loving that. (P.s. I didn't realize until I looked at these photos that I didn't roll both legs the same way—ugh!)

My ankles I guess bring me to my next subject—these shoes! Now these I have definitely worn on the blog and a million times on Instagram, because I am one million percent obsessed. Whenever I wear them I always have people staring at them as I walk by (seriously) & I love how they make any outfit look instantly chicer. Another major win! I love them so much I just bought another pair in black & they're actually uhhhhmaaaazing. They also come in a bunch of fun springy colors

Lastly, I'm all about that fringe lately. I think my boho nature comes out in the summertime & adding a pop of fringe is oh-so-easy with this Sole Society cutie, which also comes in camel!

Thanks for reading!
