An Easy Go-To Outfit Formula for Spring and Summer

An Easy Go-To Outfit Formula for Spring and Summer

You know those outfits you throw on and feel instantly good, instantly like yourself? Every woman has one. Your go-to outfit formula. It can be anything from your favorite comfy dress, a great blazer or those jeans that fit just right. For me, it’s always some version of jeans and a white tee. My effortless outfit combination—always.

To start, these Levi’s 501 jeans are “mom jeans” that are actually flattering. 👏🏼High waisted, true denim feel, light wash. These are the lived-in, relaxed jeans you’ll love and there’s something about the silhouette that just makes any outfit feel instantly casual-chic. I think the distressing on these combined with the light wash lends to the perfectly casual feel. There’s something about this was that just screams effortless and I always reach for light over dark when I want that vibe. They truly pair so perfectly with everything from flats to sandals to sneakers to heels. I wear these for everything from weekend to dog walks to date night.

Spring Capsule Wardrobe Staples

From left to right in rows: Striped Top | White Button Down | Nude Thermal | Navy Cardigan | Straight Leg Jeans | Striped Wrap Top | Loafers | White Top | Block Heel Sandals | Nude Bag

Quality over quantity has been my motto lately and with spring (kind of) officially in the air, I’m taking this approach with me into the new season by focusing on building a spring capsule wardrobe. A capsule wardrobe is essentially made up of style staples you can easily pull together and mix and match with ease.

On a personal level, I know I feel anxious seeing my closet full of seasonal trends that may not have stood the test of time or didn’t last across multiple seasons. So my goal for a spring capsule is this: investing in basics I feel confident in. Less trends, more easy-breezy style staples. Creating a closet you can pull from to easily create looks you feel confident in. Isn’t that what shopping should always be about? Finding pieces that “spark joy”?

For me, I know I always feel my best in casual-chic basics with a flattering fit and feel. I also adore finding pieces with some sort of twist and tend to gravitate towards feminine styles more heavily in the warmer months. You’ll find me in wrap silhouettes, touches of floral here, lace and ruffles to name a few.

I want to start sharing more of what I have my eye on and a few things I’m currently loving for spring include: light wash denim especially in ankle lengths which looks really great with spring slides, fitted knits in neutrals and stripes, breezy white tops and neutral shoes in styles like loafers and slides. I really love having these classic basics you can literally throw on to feel put together in an instant. The beauty of a capsule wardrobe is that everything works together!

Have you ever shopped at Everlane? If you love classic, effortless, easy, chic, high-quality-yet-affordable "basics" from a totally transparent brand, Everlane is for you. If you're looking to curate a capsule wardrobe, Everlane is definitely for you!

As I'm getting a little bit older, (hello 30's!), I'm more and more interested in creating a closet full of staples I can reach for again and again, with every season. You know those pieces that don't go out of style? We all need those—at any age. Everlane truly makes doing this so easy—and affordable! Without sacrificing quality.

I recently snagged this Cotton Double V Tank that launched this month in navy/white stripe which is truly a wardrobe must-have. It's 100% cotton and the perfect wear-every-season piece. It's not only comfy as can be but easy - b r e e z y, too. I love the classic vibe the stripes give for summer and how you can just as easily layer it up into fall. It also comes in crisp white, black and topaz i.e. the most gorgeous warm orange tone. The best part? Just $18.

This piece effortlessly tucks into your favorite jeans but also has a swingy silhouette left untucked. I can also see this being a great lightweight staple layered under a blazer or cardigan for the office. Personally, I'm a jeans girl so I wore it with these Everlane Cheeky Straight Jeans. These are just $68 but I'd honestly pay double. Everlane says these jeans are "engineered for the perfect rear fit" thanks to the perfect pocket placement and a raised back that lifts and tightens, and if that isn't the best thing to find in a jean then I don't know what is. For reference, these are in Sky Blue and I'm wearing a size 26. I am usually a 25 or 26 and they fit perfectly. This is also the ankle length and I'm 5'6".

I also grabbed this Everlane Day Market Tote in Light Taupe to use as my work bag and I am absolutely head over heels with the color, style, how much it fits, just everything. It's so roomy but doesn't feel bulky at all, is easy to carry and it's 100% Italian leather for under $200? Yes, yes, yes! This comes in several classic colors and they also have a magazine tote.

As always, thank you for reading!

Another day, another white top & denim look. Probably my forever go-to combination. I've been clearly (possibly way too) obsessed with off-the-shoulder tops this season, but this one from SheIn is actually so completely different than any other I've ever seen, so...yes. It was a yes.

Most of my others are flowy, so I was instantly intrigued by the crisp fabric. It's almost like a white button-down, but off-the-shoulder & not at all a button-down. It has that crisp & clean feeling though, is what I mean. Button down with a major twist. 🙌🏼  The sleeves are actually self-tie & wrap around your arm, which was a little tricky at first (I needed help) but worth the overall effect. I'm wearing a small & it's pretty much a crazy steal at $10.99!

Weekends in my book are all about comfort. Honestly, sometimes I don't even change out of workout wear. And I probably didn't even work out. Just sayin. Typically, I'll throw on a pair of jeans and a baseball cap and call it a day, but I think you're kind of winning when your jeans and baseball cap are actually a little bit presentable. Distressed denim + sweater + baseball cap + leopard oxfords = out the door in the easiest casual weekend look.

This Jcrew cap was from last year, but they still have a similar style, or you can check out some of my current faves below. Leopard print and buffalo plaid?? Swooning.

With the temperatures dropping and winter quickly approaching, scarves are becoming the easiest and most functional way to accessorize. My simple denim on denim look got an instant update thanks to a pop of... blanket scarf! Last season I completely missed out on the blanket scarf craze and I seem to be on a mission to make up for it this year. I picked up the infamous tartan scarf on eBay last month, but had also had my eye on this one for quite some time. When I saw it on Brina Box I knew I (might as well) snag it, and I have to say... I think I might like it even more than my tartan. Is it weird to say I think the tartan washes me out?! This one is double sided which means you get a mix of two of the seasons trendiest patterns, plaid and houndstooth, and of course, extra bang for your buck. With the multitude of ways to tie a blanket scarf (not to mention, it's actual function as a blanket!) it really is like getting at least(!) 10 different scarves in one.

Cable knit sweaters and fall go hand in hand. Obviously. And now that there has been a steady chill in the air, I am in full-on sweater weather mode and ones that are easy to pull on and go are always a win. I love the classic cream and white versions, but never have I ever found a cable knit as adorable as this one from ASOS. It's pink and it's ruffled and I think that's kind of enough said. It's the perfect blend of classic and feminine, and pairs oh so perfectly with my favorite distressed denim.

I think what I love most about fall (clothing-wise) is fall layers. Sweaters, vests, cardigans, blazers, jackets. Any kind of outerwear. I think I say this with everything, but I may have found my new favorite jacket, i.e., fall layer. I haven't been to an H&M in ages, let alone a mall, but I popped into one with a friend this weekend and was swooning over gorgeous knits and layers galore. Somehow I walked away with only three things. (I know, I'm impressed.) This jacket being one of them.

It's like almost like a faux tweed and has faux leather piping details throughout. Incredibly classic, chic, and versatile. It's structured, but not stiff or uncomfortable, and is literally the perfect piece to throw on over anything. As if it doesn't get any better, it has an ever so slight peplum. Needless to say, I'm obsessed, and at $49.95 I knew it would be worth every penny.

If you haven't been to an H&M lately. Just go.
