Every once in a while I find a couple pieces I *have. to. have*, only to order them and realize they're a bit too short, too tight, too small, too long, too something! I am obsessed with this cozy J.O.A tie-sleeve sweater but when I put it on, I feel a bit drowned by it. Don't get me wrong—it's one of those meant-to-be-oversized styles and I love that but sometimes you just need a little more shape, especially on days when you're feeling the frumps. Is that even a word?

So...what can you do? One thing I love doing with sweaters in oversized styles is pairing them with skirts for the fall and winter seasons. This one worked perfectly to dress down my more fitted Free People skirt, making it instantly more appropriate for a casual fall day. I love the juxtaposition between cozy and fitted and the different textures and details for added interest.

If you have a looser swing skirt, I love pairing them with cropped sweaters that sometimes feel just slightly short when worn with jeans.

Slipping into over-the-knee boots is such an easy way to complete any skirt ensemble and this is my favorite pair by Steve Madden. I bought them during Black Friday last year and they're still a steal coming in at just under $100. I love the fit through the leg line and I've personally noticed very minimal slipping, which is really all I want in an OTK style.

Thanks for reading!

One of my biggest goals in life is to live in a house covered in bougainvillea. 🙌🏼 I love heading into San Francisco to take advantage of the cooler temps and it was a dream shooting near this bougainvillea covered home Pacific Heights. This house = major goals.

While it's still very much summer here in the Bay Area, I'm making sure to concentrate on adding items to my wardrobe that can make the transition into fall with ease. I picked up this J.O.A miniskirt plus a few more staples from Nordstrom to do just that. Nordstrom is my one-stop shop for everything and I love how you can snag so many classic, yet on-trend staples.

I love the muted rust tone of this skirt for both summer and fall and how easily it can be dressed up or down. The wrap silhouette is so flattering and the double ties give it such an effortless vibe. A quick size guide—I would definitely consider sizing UP, especially if you'd like it to fit a little more a-line. I initially ordered it in the xs but had to exchange it for a size small.

I paired it with this J.Crew lightweight sweater from Nordstrom, which is is another wear now and later style. It's an easy lightweight cotton and I love the classic silhouette and dramatic sleeves. I'm wearing an xxs in this one.

I finished with my favorite grey suede midi boots for a slightly breezy day in the city but I've also worn this skirt more casually with my favorite white tee and gladiator sandals.

What styles are taking you into the fall season?
