Spring Capsule Wardrobe

While I don’t typically strive for sticking to a capsule wardrobe each season, I am a fan of focusing on a less is more approach when it comes to my wardrobe, choosing pieces that mix and match and take me through a season with ease. Spring seems to be the season my classic wardrobe gets a bit more feminine and I find a few flirty styles fill a need for date nights and spring events. I’m a big believer that no two capsule collections need to be exactly alike which is why I’m a proponent of editing to your own needs, lifestyle and taste preferences. For example, replacing a white blouse with a white button-down, etc.

On that note, here are some of the staples that seem to get me through the spring season and well into summer, as well. xx

SQUARENECK TANKS

Basic tanks are a wardrobe essential and I find a squareneck adds a level of interest that allows the style to stand on its own in addition to layering.

WHITE TEE

The epitome of effortless and easy—need I really say more?

STRIPED SWEATER/CARDIGAN

I love this Alex Mill sweater that can be worn buttoned up or open as a cardigan for double duty. Try a striped cardigan layered over tees and squareneck tanks or your favorite striped sweater tossed over your shoulders for an effortless spring vibe and easy layered look.

WHITE BLOUSE

Always a fan of ruffles, ruching, eyelet and puff sleeve styles, there’s something about this style that screams the start of spring to me. There’s an instantly fresh feel when paired with denim and I love dressing this style up or down.

BLACK BLOUSE

I purchased a black organza sleeve top a couple seasons ago and was surprised at just how much wear I got out of it. It adds a feminine feel yet still feels polished and simple. I found myself wearing mine with denim for date night or wine tasting in Napa, white linen pants for brunch or dressed down with shorts through summer.

LIGHT DENIM

An all-season staple but especially essential for spring. Lightwash denim adds a lighter, fresher feel to any look and is an easy way to update even the heavier sweaters in your collection.

ECRU TROUSER

Another style I get a surprising amount of wear out of, this style adds a relaxed yet polished feel to any outfit. How to wear them? Try swapping them in anytime you’d usually reach for denim.

WHITE DENIM

I love a straighter style to take through spring and summer.

WIDE LEG LINEN

One of my most-worn styles from spring through summer, I’ll replace these with any of my usual denim looks. I also love reaching for them in lieu of shorts for vacation.

TAN TROUSER

A tan or khaki tone adds a bit of warmth to a spring look and a simple silhouette will always look polished.

TRENCH COAT

Another all-season staple (at least in California), this is an easy, classic layer that truly goes with everything.

DENIM JACKET

I have to admit, I’ve gravitated less to my denim jacket in recent years but I couldn’t leave out this wardrobe staple. It adds a casual, dressed-down feel and easily acts as the finishing “third piece” to an otherwise simple look.

LINEN BLAZER

The perfect polished piece that adds structure and really helps any outfit come together, whether day or night.

SWEATER BLAZER

A comfy layer that does double duty from work to play. You can really go with any color though I find white or off-white gives a fresh feel for the spring season and can really get a lot of wear.

MIDI DRESS

Whether you’re a fan of the slip dress or would rather reach for a shirt dress, a midi style is a must that can go from day paired with a denim jacket and slide sandals to night with ease topped with a linen blazer and paired with cap toe flats.

SNEAKERS

Partial to a non-chunky style that feels feminine, this Sezane pair is an off-white tone and I also like the simplicity of the Keds Ace sneaker.

NUDE BALLET FLAT

This pair just goes with everything and is crazy comfy. I’m between sizes and took my smaller size.

SLIDE SANDAL

A shoe essential to take through summer and easy to slide on with everything.

CAP TOE FLAT

I love my Chanel cap-toe ballerina flats but there are several similar styles to try. I love the chic appeal they add to any look.

HEELED SANDAL

Partial to a low heel that wears well for day, night and special occasions, this Madewell slide is incredibly comfy.
