An outfit combination I rely on often and for every season: swapping everyday denim for a pair of trousers to instantly give a basic look a chic and elevated update.

Neutral sweater layers over an elbow tee kept me warm in our California winter and I’ll take the same look into spring and summer pairing light-toned trousers (or linen pants!) with tees and tanks.

Tip: Crewneck or squareneck styles (particularly in the summer months) will keep the outfit polished.

Tip: Add heeled boots for warm ankles in a colder winter climate (+ your favorite coat) or pair with sneakers for a weekend look.
