Back in denim wearing Madewell’s new Perfect Vintage Straight Jeans. This is my first pair of maternity denim (also available in non-maternity, petite, tall and plus here) and I didn’t realize just how much I missed my jeans until I try these on and legitimately almost cried. They’re the rigid denim feel I love and find so effortless (thanks to the 99% cotton) but do offer a touch of stretch for comfort + the lighter wash is perfect for that quintessential everyday, casual-cool wear. If you’re not in a baby bump season, they’re a great all-season option with that slight 90s/mom jeans vibe that dresses up and down with ease.

The maternity version features an over-the-belly band which allows for custom sizing and stretch for the bump. As this is my first pair of maternity jeans, I don’t have much to compare to but I found the over-the-belly style to be very comfortable. I know there are also maternity styles with side panels only, however, I personally like the fit and feel of wearing something over my baby bump.

DENIM SIZING

I’m generally between sizes but took my usual (non-maternity) Madewell denim size, which is my larger denim size across most brands. They’re a great fit for me through the bump with plenty of room to stretch thanks to the belly band. I would say they run slightly tight through the lower leg for a straight leg but otherwise have a slightly relaxed fit overall. I’m 5’6” for length reference.

ALL OTHER SIZING

I sized up two sizes in the tee for a relaxed fit even for the bump. Wearing a medium.

I took my usual size xs in the blazer and it has a relaxed fit that also works with the bump. I can technically still button it, though I wouldn’t as it gets a little stretched/messy. While it does run slightly oversized/relaxed through the body, I would probably steer away from sizing down as it is tighter through the upper arms. The only reason I’d size up is if you need more room through the upper arms/shoulders but note you may get a bit more room through the body.

I’m between shoe sizes (8 and 8.5) and always size UP in Madewell shoes, so I also took my larger size in the flats. If it’s helpful, I wear an 8 in Nike and Allbirds but always wear an 8.5 in brands like Madewell and Steve Madden.
