Aquatalia Weatherproof Booties

With the start of each season, I find myself concentrating on taking stock of my wardrobe, donating pieces that no longer suit me and filling voids or replacing key pieces where necessary. Taking a “less is more” approach, the goal is to curate a closet full of staples that are functional for my lifestyle, as high-quality as my budget allows and even sustainable where possible.

One of the categories I’ve been upgrading as we head into winter is my winter footwear collection.

I certainly don’t have a shortage of boots but I do find myself with too many styles I don’t wear and not enough styles that make sense for my lifestyle. From heel height to shaft height to functionality, style and, most importantly, wearability, so many factors go into finding the right boot for the occasion. My goal is to have fewer boots and by having boots that can do more. 🙌🏼

Enter the Aquatalia Tilly Boot. A weatherproof, block heel bootie with a sleek and simple silhouette. I bought these boots over the Black Friday weekend on MAJOR sale (40% off of $450) and was instantly drawn to the low heel and sock bootie-like style. It’s like nothing I have in my boot collection and I knew it would solve one of the main “gripes” I tend to have with other boots: the sometimes-not-so-flattering fit around the ankles.

Features:

Heel style: block/chunky

Toe style: closed toe

2 1/4" (57mm) heel

7" shaft

Side zip closure

Leather upper and lining/rubber sole

Made in Italy

Sizing details: I’m between sizes (8 and 8.5) and went with the 8.5 and they fit well with on my narrow-er foot with room for socks. For reference, I wear an 8.5 in Madewell, Everlane and Steve Madden and an 8 in Nike.

Sock boot styles usually come up a little bit higher on the leg (higher shaft) and are meant to fit snug around the ankle, making them a little bit sleeker and more streamlined than a wider ankle style. This profile combination of high shaft, tight ankle can really offer such a great leg-lengthening effect.

Because of the tighter ankle, sock bootie styles pair well with jeans in all leg styles, from skinny to straight! You can let skinny jeans tuck into them and straighter legs will fall right over. I love how you don’t have to fuss or worry about any sort of bunching at the ankle. They come in a few colors (Black Suede, Chocolate Suede, Navy and Anthracite or gray) and I couldn't resist adding classic black to my collection. They pair well any color denim (I wore them with a mid-wash blue here) but black jeans would add the most streamlined and sleek effect.

I personally love the lower heel on these, as well. In the past, I’ve noticed sock bootie styles tend to have higher heels, which isn’t very practical for me personally. I think the 2.25” heel on these will be perfect for both casual wear and dressy occasions. You can even wear them with dresses and the tighter, higher shaft will be very flattering.

I wore these for the first time over the weekend and really got to test out the weatherproof-ability. Aquatalia is actually known for its signature weatherproof finish and all of its shoes are fully weatherproofed and stain-resistant, giving them incredible durability. This is such a must when shopping with the intention of creating a wardrobe you want to last for years to come.

I had a full day’s wear of these over the weekend and they seemed to have no breaking in needed. They survived a rainy, mucky day and kept me comfortable all day long. One thing I also instantly loved was how easy they are to pull on and off thanks to the side-zip.

As always, thank you for reading and don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any additional questions!
