2020 Nordstrom Anniversary Sale Finds + How I Shop the Sale

The 2020 Nordstrom Anniversary Sale is almost here and I think it’s a wonderful opportunity to take advantage of a great deal and also build your fall (and everyday) wardrobe but want to say one thing: don’t feel pressured to shop.
With that in mind, I can assume you’re interested in shopping the sale and perhaps getting a head start on your fall wardrobe. Nordstrom did things a bit differently this year and is giving everyone the ability to preview all sale items earlier than ever. So I thought I would round up some of my personal favorites + also share how I tend to shop the sale.
All Nordstrom cardmembers can shop Early Access starting August 13 or even earlier depending on your Nordy Club status.
The Anniversary Sale is open to everyone on August 19–30. Prices go up August 31.
1. Think about what (if anything) you need. Things that may be missing in your collection & items to add value to your wardrobe. I try to think back to past seasons and remember either what I wore most, what I lacked (boots, sneakers, sweaters?) and/or what I’d like to build on.
2. Seek out fall items, transitional pieces & wardrobe staples. I don’t just look for fall items but consider styles that work for every season. Everyday (chic) tees to layer under cardigans, styles that can help take you from summer into fall and even summer finds like sandals and straw hats. They’re perfect to bridge the gap between summer and fall & your future spring self will thank you, as well.

3. Browse by category. Once you identify what you’d like to add to your wardrobe, start browsing by category. It’s easy to feel overwhelmed if you’re trying to sort through the entire women’s sale collection, so I typically start with sweaters and shoes as I find they often sell out quickest. From there, I scan for my favorite neutrals (grey, white, nude, black) and always look for items that are classic and chic over trendy.
4. Browse by brand. If you’re not looking for anything in particular, a great way to browse the sale is by browsing by brand. Think of your favorite denim brands, sustainable brands, designer labels and start there. A few favorites I like to check: Vince, Madewell, Levi’s.
5. Consider consumable items (things you use daily). Skincare, makeup, haircare—the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale can be a great opportunity to stock up on everyday beauty staples and brands often offer exclusive value sets, so I recommend a quick search of your favorite brands.
6. Don’t forget your home! I may be more interested in the home decor category this year. I’m already eying a few cozy and linen things.
7. Consider outlier categories like activewear, sleepwear & intimates. Things like socks and underwear may not seem that important but you can often find higher quality items at more affordable prices.
