Last Call to Shop the 2019 Nordstrom Anniversary Sale!

Last Call to Shop the 2019 Nordstrom Anniversary Sale!

The 2019 Nordstrom Anniversary Sale ends Sunday August 4th! This means sale prices go UP August 5th. If you’ve been sitting on your cart or waiting for restocks, now is definitely the time to do a final sale sweep, hit add to cart and press purchase!

To be honest, I didn’t go crazy shopping the sale this year and they didn’t do as many restocks as I hoped but I did find some favorite purchases and things that will be (and already have been!) essential to my closet. There are also tons of great buys from their Beauty Exclusives and I always recommend checking out the Home Department for cozy things like blankets and remembering the “little things”—like underwear. 🤣

I wanted to roundup some items still in stock (and hopefully *still* in stock the moment you’re reading this!) You can see browse more of my previous #NSALE posts HERE

January Recap - Life, Style and Home

January Recap | Life, Style and Home

With the first month of 2019 coming to an end, I wanted to do a quick wrap-up of January, sharing things happening, styles I’ve been living in and even something a bit new to my blog content: our home!

I kicked off January vowing to continue to shop less. How did that go? Surprisingly well, actually. The Marie Kondo phenomenon was certainly a helpful catapult but I’m proud to say it was something already on my mind even before the documentary. Shopping less, wearing more. Aka donating things I no longer wear and giving love and life to things I already have rather than always having or needing something new. I noticed it was easy to shop less when I asked myself “Does this fill a void?” If it didn’t serve a new purpose or serve as an investment, capsule collection piece to replace 3, 4, 5 other very similar styles I preferred to donate, I wouldn’t buy it and I’m really happy to say I only purchased a few new style things in the month of January!

In terms of outfits, January was filled with a lot of basics and classic looks—which I’m all about and is how I want to envision and build my closet. I pulled out pieces from year’s past—like classic coats, sweaters and knits. I have to say, I think this might bee easier in the winter because I find myself gravitating towards staples and classic, neutral investment pieces so much more. We will see how spring goes when I want all the pretty, lacey, feminine things! BUT, my goal with each season will be to focus on building up my wardrobe staples.

A January home update…

While I may have avoided buying clothes this month, I certainly made up for it in the home decor department. You guys, we did a LOT of home shopping. Or should I say, home window shopping. I really want every piece to “spark joy” which is something I haven’t always done in the past…often buying things just to fill a space, only to not truly love it later. My personal favorite find of the month I truly love has to be these faux leather counter chairs/bar stools from Home Goods, which you guys went crazy over! They helped complete our kitchen and dining area, less a few finishing touches, and we are really loving having this new sitting space which makes kitchen conversations easy. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to find these online but if it’s helpful, the brand is Avenue Six and I added a few dupes below.

We also finished (I think) our mantel! We were planning on mounting our tv here but we really love the vibe it gives the space, so we’re trying to find a workaround.

This month, we also got to work on our master bedroom which was severely lacking furniture. Like—we had a mattress on a basic frame, two old nightstands and a cheap, random table for our tv. We upgraded to a king mattress (more on that next month), got a real, big kid (er, adult) bed and I found some personalized finishing touches I can’t wait to share more of next month! For now, here’s a peek at our bedding…most of which I also found at Home Goods! It’s honestly amazing what a little refresh can do to your sleep space and we are finding it so amusing how we can barely reach each other in a King bed—it’s amazing. 😂

And a few life updates from January…

January was our first full month in our new place! We’re actually in a new town (only 10min away from where we were previously) and I was nervous about the change but we are loving it so much. It’s charming and seems to have everything we need. We are loving trying out new restaurants and there are so many quaint ones.

Tariq is working a new schedule where he has a later wake up call (no more 5am work days 🙌🏼) but that means his 12-hour shift now ends at 8pm, so we (meaning the dogs and I 😂) are adjusting to these later nights home alone. So far, it’s just meant more dog snuggles and probably far too much bad reality tv. 😏We are enjoying having our Sundays together!

I bought a Furbo! It rained A LOT here this month and the dogs took some time to adjust to, um, peeing in the rain in our new yard. I had to relegate them to the bathroom and the Furbo Dog Camera was a MUST for separation anxiety, mostly mine. 🙈So far, I highly recommend it for peace of mind at the very least but you can also talk to them and give them treats, which is awesome.

We just booked our first trip of 2019 together! See you in April, Puerto Vallarta! 💃🌴

I hope you all had an amazing first month of the year—cheers to 2019!—and, as always, thank you so much for reading.

Gift Guide for Her | My Classic Holiday Wishlist

classic holiday gift ideas for her

The biggest thing on my wishlist this year wasn’t something you can buy in a store and it’s not something I’m adding to this wishlist. But it is something I’ve been envisioning and dreaming about…and am beyond excited for. It’s a home. Yard space for Benny and Marlo, somewhere light and bright….a place with more space for us to welcome people into. If you asked me over the last few months what I wanted for Christmas, a home, hands-down, would have been my top pick.

…and we found it! We’ve been in a 1-bedroom apartment for the past two years and while we’ve enjoyed our time there (it’s actually where we met!), we are so excited and ready to be in a bigger space. We’re not ready to buy and will still be renting (thank you, Bay Area, for being so. dang. expensive), but we found something with more space for us and the dogs and can’t wait for this next chapter in a place that really feels like our own home.

Since I feel like a lot of my energy has been going towards sending out good home vibes lately, I haven’t even been thinking about other “things” I might want but it’s still fun to get ideas, so I did put together a quick list of a few holiday things. This list does have some higher priced items but I’m genuinely trying to share things that are timeless, things I genuinely love or things that would be a great addition to any wardrobe. Classic items in case it’s helpful to get ideas for your mom, sister, bff—or you!

Without further ado…here’s…

The Top 10 Classic Things on My Holiday Wish List

  1. To Give Back - I know it’s not a typical thing to put on a holiday gift guide but I’ve been looking for ways to do more and give back and one cause really close to my heart is animals. I was on the West Elm site the other day and found a sweet and easy way to do just that this holiday season. You can buy any of their West Elm x ASPCA Collection and $1 of your purchase will go directly to the ASPCA. The ornaments are really adorable and would be perfect for any animal lover you know or to simply snag something sentimental for yourself this holiday.

  2. Low-Heel Booties - I’ve been trying to streamline my closet lately and have noticed I have tons of booties with 3+ inch heel heights and fewer low-heeled styles that are actually wearable in my everyday life. I still love having a slight heel because I think it tends to look more flattering, but, basically—I need something classic that goes with everything and can bridge the gap between day and night. Sound familiar? Enter the M.Gemi Corsa. These come in several colors and leather/suede options but my favorite is the Mocha Suede. They’re just over 2” which I think is a good in-between.

  3. A Designer Bag - This is a SPLURGE and somewhat unrealistic with a new house, but a girl can dream. I generally purchase within the $150-$300 price range when purchasing higher-end bags but this Chloe Tess Shoulder Bag might be my next dream bag.

  4. Skincare - Sunday Riley Good Genes has truly transformed my skin. Before I started using this product, I honestly wasn’t comfortable going makeup-free. It’s pricey but so worth it. I will gladly accept this for any holiday or birthday and I think it’s a great gift item for a beauty lover—even in a gift set like this one available HERE and HERE which is under $30! You will notice results within the first week, so a smaller size will do.

  5. Perfume - When it comes to gift giving, can you ever really go wrong with perfume? Aerin Beauty Rose de Grasse perfume by Estée Lauder is the most gorgeous, amazing scent I’ve ever smelled. It’s a pricey one and the gorgeous bottle would make a great git. They also have this perfume set, which would be fun.

  6. High-Quality Travel Bags - What’s more appropriate this holiday season than a gift geared for travel? I’ve been swooning over everything Cuyana for a few years now and love this overnight bag and leather travel case set.

  7. Cashmere - I always love having classic sweaters to reach for and a gift doesn’t get much more luxurious than cashmere. I love this Cashmere Crop Mockneck from Everlane and it’s a brand that’s really transparent and admirable. The $100 price point doesn’t hurt either.

  8. Candles - There’s not much better than coming home after a long day and lighting a candle—especially during this season. I adore the scent of this Babe Soy Candle in Rosa from Anthropologie. It’s a subtle floral that’s a little rich but not overwhelming and makes the perfect hostess or holiday favor.

  9. New Sneakers - I love my Nike sneakers and typically get a new pair to workout in every year or two. I’m due for an update and love the colors available in this Nike Free style.

  10. Soft Nude Flats - I practically live in flats and they’re what I wear most for work—even into the colder months. I know these aren’t practical for colder climates but I’ve been eyeing these Via Spiga loafers for a while—and they’re currently on sale!

I hope this was a helpful or interesting read to get you geared up for your holiday shopping and I’m wishing all of you a very happy Thanksgiving, safe travels and a wonderful holiday season!

As always, thank you so much for reading!

Gift Guide - For Home

gift guide for home

Happy holiday season! I can't believe it's already December. This year has flown by and we're back to holiday style posts and gift guides. You guys really enjoyed my Gift Guide for Me, so I wanted to do another one with my Gift Guide for Home. I moved into my new apartment last year and have been slowly but surely filling it with all my favorite things, i.e., making it a home. I feel like I'm in a constant state of having things on 'my list', so I thought it'd be fun to share some of my current favorites/general gift ideas for the home. I hope it's helpful!

A few things on the list?

Coffee/tea anything! I think I've shared before I was on a tea kick after switching from coffee to green tea a few years ago. Well, I'm back on coffee and have found myself reliant on the coffee station in my apartment complex, morning trips to Starbucks, and most recently, instant coffee packets—which I'm not hating on, sometimes you just need to be caffeinated in an instant. BUT, I think it's time to get my very own big-girl coffee machine again and am absolutely loving copper touches. How cute is this Technivorm Glass Coffee Maker from Williams Sonoma? This Cuisinart Coffee Maker from Sur La Table is also super affordable—i.e., under $100! Don't miss an extra 20% off with code GIFT17. It comes out to just over $70.

Gifts for the Coffee Lover

I think I've also mentioned how terrible I've been at keeping plants alive. Why I didn't get my grandma's green thumb, I'll never know and still cry about to this day. I've been trying to add more 'fake life' as I like to call it to my apartment and particularly love this cute faux fiddle leaf fig tree. It's so easy to grab some sort of terrain gift for the home and they're so very 'on-trend' that I thought something 'green' would make a great gift.

Gifts for a (not-so)Green Thumb

Moving on to the bar area, I've been wanting to try a wine purifier for a while and thought it would make a great gift. From what I've heard, the sulfites (or preservatives) in wine are what can cause allergic reactions like flushing, congestion, hives, etc and (though I don't think it's proven) maybe headaches. I love wine but do often get that next-day headache even after just one glass. I know organic wines are supposed to help but I've also had my eye on a purifier to filter out the sulfites from any bottle. I thought this could be a great gift for a wino—or someone who wants to be but can't hang, ha!

As always, I also still have a bar cart on my list and I love the classic yet antique-y mix of wood and brass on this Mid-Century Bar Cart from West Elm

Gifts for the Bar Cart

Finally, in the unique/random/miscellaneous category...I've mentioned I'm recently very into candles and used to sort off loathe receiving them but now I'd take 100. Consider giving the gift of a good-smelling home with an electric diffuser—be sure to include a few scented oils! I also thought this Planter Phone Dock was just really cool, unique and most importantly, useful.

Miscellaneous Home Gifts

Whether these are a gift for a loved one, a white elephant or a gift for you (I won't tell), I think there's something for everyone. What are you still shopping for this season? I'd love to know.

Thanks for reading and enjoy your week!

Gift Guide: My Holiday Wishlist

Happy Thursday, friends! I put together my first gift guide for the season and thought I'd start with something a little different. A gift guide for me! 10 things I've been loving and lusting over—and thought maybe you'd find something you love for yourself, mom, friend, sister, etc. too. :)

1. COZY SWEATER - I love sweaters I can live in all season long. This Free People Cuddle Up sweater quite literally sounds like the perfect thing. It comes in a bunch of colors like black and rose but you know I can never have too many white tops.

2. COZY COAT - You know I recently snagged this camel coat and I just love the classic color. This Kensie Teddy Bear Coat would be so perfect for more casual days to cozy up in.

3. SNEAKERS - I don't Instagram my athleisure outfits as much but I am in sneakers every. single. day. From taking Marlo for a walk in the AM to working out—even to work!—they're my go-to with both leggings and jeans. I'm constantly on the hunt for neutrals I can wear with everything and while Nike Juvenate has typically been my favorite, I've been on an Adidas kick and love this pair. Neutral. Comfy. Cool. Done.

4. NEW BOOTS - I have a pair of Steve Madden over-the-knee boots I bought during Black Friday last year for under $100, which—don't get me wrong!—I love! But it would be my dream to have a pair of Stuart Weitzman boots to last forever and I love the low heel. I also love these Everlane Chelsea Boots for daily wear and these sleek Marc Fisher boots in black.

5. LOAFERS - I've been newly into loafers this past year and I just love how they look casually cool with any ensemble. A (slight) investment pair like these Everlane Loafers in camel would go with everything for every season. But maybe only a California winter. 😅

6. GREY DENIM - I have to admit, I have a couple pairs of grey jeans that I find harder to pair but I just love the faded wash and distressing on these AG Sophie skinnies. I've also been updating all my jeans from mid to high rise, so...I find that a new pair is justified!

7. ESTEE LAUDER MASK BOOST - I'm just getting into facials and masks this year but I've already found a few I'm obsessed with. This Estēe Lauder Revitalizing Supreme Global Anti-Aging Mask Boost is holy grail status. It's meant to bring out a more rested, radiant, energized and restored complexion after just one use and I can say—it really does! I also loved the instantly illuminating finish so much (it somehow just evens out the complexion) I bought the same product in their Wake Up Balm that I now use as a primer for a similar effect.

8. ROSE SCENTED CANDLE - Another new obsession...candles! I can't get enough of them. I've been stocking my collection by snagging random ones from T.J. Maxx and Home Goods and have found I love a clean, fresh scent like rose. I've heard amazing things about these Diptyque candles.

9. DIFFUSER - Again, newly scent/ambiance obsessed and I love the look of this Serene House Supernova one.

10. FIDDLE LEAF FIG - You guys, don't judge me. I killed my fiddle leaf fig. But I realized plants just don't thrive in my apartment because I don't get enough natural light. So, this Christmas, I desperately want to add some (faux) life to my home with a faux fiddle leaf fig. I cute is this Figgie? That's what I'll call him.

So that's (mostly) all. I did add a few more favorites and wants below. What are you hoping for this holiday season and what gift guides would be helpful to see if any? I'd love to know!

x Tyler
